Overview
Education has been defined as the entire process by which a culture transmits itself across generations. The culture of Mount Alvernia Academy is rooted in the teachings and values of St. Francis and St. Clare, most clearly and simply stated in the Beatitudes and the Prayer of St. Francis. The values of the Franciscan Tradition help us as teachers to develop the students’ talents and possibilities as we strive to commit ourselves to an integrated education of the whole person. As our objective, we take into account physical gifts for work, sports, and entertainment; moral gifts for discerning and choosing what is good; spiritual gifts for compassion, love and outreach; social gifts for relationships and service; intellectual gifts for pursuing truth and wisdom, and aesthetic gifts for creating and appreciating the beautiful.
The faculty and staff members of Mount Alvernia Academy understand that parents are our students’ first teachers. In the spirit and tradition of St. Francis of Assisi, our school builds on the foundation which fosters a culture that will enable our students to grow in faith and virtue so that they will strive to “act justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with their God.” (Micah: 6:8)
Open communication, cooperation, and respect among all staff members demonstrate the strong sense of community that exists between the school administrators, the faculty, the parents, and the students. This environment creates a family atmosphere of caring and support.
